Nexus Family Healing is expanding, opening its first mental health treatment program in Oregon next month. Walden Crossing is a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) that will support youth ages 10-17 with mental and developmental disabilities who have become involved in the justice system.

The new program offers secure placement and clinical services during this court-ordered pause in the youth’s life. Nexus Family Healing staff will offer these youth a therapeutic environment and restorative services, including on-campus education, individualized programming and therapy, and recreational opportunities, while they are engaged in the court process.

Dr. Michelle Murray, CEO of Nexus Family Healing, explains, “This can be an emotionally stressful time for these youth, many of whom have experienced serious trauma, but it can also be a healing time to reflect on their past and learn critical skills and tools for their future. At Nexus, we believe every youth is worth it. We work hard to help them heal and be hopeful for their futures, even in the most difficult times.”

With this new program, Nexus Family Healing, a nonprofit mental health care organization based in Minnesota, expands its footprint to its fifth state. Nexus also operates facilities in North Dakota, Illinois, and Maryland.

“We are committed to learning about the needs or gaps in service in a community and developing programs that meet those needs, whether in Oregon, or in our own backyards. There is more work to do in family and youth mental health, and we are determined to be part of the solution,” says Murray.
